Le mirascope est un appareil optique qui crée une illusion d'hologramme en trois dimensions. Il est constitué de deux miroirs paraboliques placés face à face, avec une petite ouverture au sommet du miroir supérieur. Lorsqu'un objet est placé au centre du miroir inférieur (ici la coccinnelle), les miroirs courbés réfléchissent la lumière de manière à projeter une image tridimensionnelle donnant l'impression que l'objet flotte dans l'air.
